“Alo Coffee was born from a dream—and a leap of faith. For years, former university teacher and electrical engineer Tamiru worked in coffee, witnessing firsthand the challenges of an industry where quality was often overlooked and producers were struggling. Despite his experience, the frustrations of unfair pricing and undervalued labor left him hesitant to start his own venture. That changed in 2020, when Ethiopia held its first-ever Cup of Excellence (CoE) competition a revelation that proved exceptional coffee could be celebrated and rewarded. Together with his wife, Messi, Tamiru set out with a singular mission: to prove that Sidama’s finest coffees could stand among the world’s best. In 2021, against all odds, their very first submission—a meticulously processed lot from their home village of Alo in Bensa—won Ethiopia’s Cup of Excellence, cementing their belief that dedication, not just tradition, shapes greatness.

‘Murgo’ is a Sidamic word expressing miracle, mystery, and something beyond this world, represents the extraordinary potential of this site. The coffee processed here is crafted to be exceptional, distinctive, and truly beyond expectation. The JARC 74158 varietal is a native Ethiopian coffee developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) in 1979 for disease resistance and its "intriguing sweetness." This varietal is known for white floral aromas, honey, brown sugar, and fruit notes like peach and apricot.

Alo's process includes handpicking ripe cherries, immediate flotation and depulping, and slow shade drying on raised beds with a thin layer of mucilage left on the parchment to allow the coffee to absorb the unique flavors of the mucilage meticulously.”

Shipping & delivery

Truly Market ships from our shop in Markham, Ontario. Pickup is available in store. Rates below are in CAD and shown at checkout before you pay.

Order processing

We pack online orders at Truly Market — First Markham Place on business days. The shop is closed Saturday, so orders placed Friday evening or Saturday are packed on Sunday or Monday depending on timing. You will get an email when your order is on its way or ready for pickup.

GTA delivery

We offer Complimentary GTA Delivery on orders of $150 CAD or more (before tax) to selected GTA areas. Delivery is $0 when your address qualifies at checkout. If the cart is under $150, or your address is outside the eligible areas, checkout will show our regular Canada shipping instead.

Canada-wide shipping

We ship across Canada for a flat $15 CAD, typically 3–9 business days after we pack the order. Canada Post options may also appear at checkout depending on the destination. Complimentary GTA Delivery does not replace this rate outside eligible GTA areas, or on carts under $150.

U.S. shipping

United States Shipping — Temporarily Paused

Due to ongoing uncertainty surrounding U.S. tariffs, customs requirements, and import restrictions, we have temporarily paused shipping to the United States.

We are closely monitoring the situation and hope to resume U.S. shipping once the requirements become clearer and we can ensure a smooth and reliable delivery experience for our customers.

International shipping

Hong Kong and mainland China: Flat rate $25 CAD, typically 5–10 business days after we pack the order. Complimentary free shipping applies on orders of $600 CAD or more (before tax) to Hong Kong and mainland China.

Other international destinations: $30 CAD, typically 6–10 business days. Customs fees, duties, and import taxes are the customer’s responsibility. We do not ship to every country; unavailable destinations will not show a rate at checkout.

Estimated delivery times

  • Pickup at the Markham shop: ready on a business day after we pack, during store hours.
  • Complimentary GTA Delivery: usually a few business days after packing. We will email you when it is out for delivery.
  • Canada: 3–9 business days after packing.
  • Hong Kong / mainland China: 5–10 business days after packing.
  • Other international (outside the U.S.): 6–10 business days after packing, plus any customs clearance. U.S. shipping is temporarily paused.

Times start when the order leaves the shop, not when you check out. Perishable and refrigerated items may be held so they travel on the next suitable day.

Tracking

When your order ships, Shopify emails a confirmation with a tracking number and carrier link when the carrier provides one. Local GTA deliveries and in-store pickup may not have a public tracking number; we will still email you when the order is packed or out for delivery. Check spam if you do not see it, or email us with your order number.

Delays and delivery issues

Weather, carrier volume, incorrect addresses, and customs can add time. If a package is marked delivered and you cannot find it, check with neighbours and your building, then contact us within 48 hours and we will open a carrier trace. We are not responsible for delays or fees once a parcel is with the carrier or in customs, but we will help you follow up.

If we packed the wrong item or something arrives damaged, photograph the parcel and email us. Food, supplements, and personal care that have been opened generally cannot go back; see our refund policy.
